Discover the Highlands with Highland Spirit Tours
For those visiting Inverness, most will head to Loch Ness. There are lots of things to do and see including visiting Urquhart Castle. Loch Ness is a huge body of fresh water, which lies to the South West of Inverness and is approximately 23 miles long. The A82 Inverness to Fort William road weaves down the west side of the Loch and there are some parking beauty spots along the way which offer fantastic views over the Loch and towards Urquhart Castle. It is also the route of the Great Glen Way.
The A82 passes the Caledonian Canal which links Inverness to the top of Loch Ness. A popular stop especially with gardeners is Abriachan Garden Nursery, which has spectacular views over Loch Ness. About 14 miles from Inverness the road curves away from the Loch and into the small town of Drumnadrochit. Drumnadrochit is a thriving, busy place due to its proximity to Urquhart Castle. There are two Loch Ness Monster related tourist attractions nearby, gift shops, places to eat as well as the opportunity to take a cruise down Loch Ness.
Near Drumnadrochit lies Urquhart Castle which sits on a point overlooking Loch Ness. This is one of most popular tourist attractions in Scotland and has a very interesting exhibition as well as a good cafe.
